15 Crazy Traffic Laws that Actually Exist

Hard to believe, but yes, there are some ridicules traffic laws in the US and around the globe that are pretty bizarre. Keep Reading.

  • 1. It’s illegal to drive blindfolded in the state of Alabama, thank goodness!
  • 2. Evidently in California, you will be fined if you jump from a vehicle moving 65 mph…that is, if you survive.
  • 3. In New Jersey, you must honk when passing a vehicle. Needless to say, only irate drivers obey this law!
  • 4. Don’t tie your dog to your roof in Alaska or risk getting a fine. Feel free to tie your cat, pet bunny or prized monkey to your roof though.
  • 5. In Connecticut, firetrucks are not allowed to go faster than 25 mph even if they are responding to an emergency.
  • 6. It’s a crime in Illinois to drive a car without a steering wheel. Really?
  • 7. In Texas, you must have windshield wipers to register your vehicle, but it doesn’t say anything about having a windshield.
  • 8. It’s against the law in Arizona to drive your vehicle in reverse on a public road.
  • 9. By law in Oregon, you must yield to pedestrians while driving on the sidewalk.
  • 10. Don’t get pulled over with a gorilla in the back seat of your car in Massachusetts, or face getting a fine. Seriously.
  • 11. In Japan, splashing a pedestrian on the road is illegal.
  • 12. Apparently, it is illegal to run out of gas in Germany. It is against the law to stop on the autobahn unnecessarily and running out of fuel falls under that category because it could have been avoided.
  • 13. In Denmark, it’s against the law to start your car without checking under it first…in case someone is sleeping under there.
  • 14. On the Island of Cyprus, you are not allowed to eat or drink while driving. In fact, you can’t even raise a hand from the steering wheel to wave at someone!
  • 15. It’s against the law in Singapore to come within 50 meters of a pedestrian. 50 meters equals about 162 feet. Good luck with that!
