We’ve all been there before. Life is busy. You get overwhelmed with work demands, family responsibilities, etc. and one day you notice the reminder sticker in the corner of your windshield.
Your oil change is overdue.
Here goes another task on your already lengthy to-do list. You convince yourself it’s not that important, it can wait another week or two, maybe even a month, whenever you find some extra time. Putting it off a little can’t do that much harm. Right?
Wrong.
Oil is the lifeblood of your car or truck. It protects and lubricates the thousands of moving components in the engine. As the oil runs through the engine, it also moves heat away from the engine, so it doesn’t overheat. Changing the oil at recommended intervals is crucial to keeping your vehicle reliable and running efficiently.
Here are three good reasons why it’s not a good idea to put off that oil change any longer:
1. Poor Engine Performance – Over time, as the oil runs through the engine, it picks up dirt and debris causing the oil to become dirty sludge. Your engine’s moving components have to fight through the muck, forcing them to work harder. In turn, the harder your engine works, the more fuel you will burn, making it necessary to stop at the pump more often. You may notice less zip and torque as well.
2. Vehicle Warranty Voided – That’s right. Failing to have your vehicle serviced at factory recommended intervals could void your warranty. Our professionals at Hilltop Tire Service will make sure your vehicle is serviced with factory specified oil and filters, making sure your warranty stays intact.
3. Complete Engine Failure – Put off that oil change too long, and your car could eventually end up in the scrap pile. No kidding. Once the oil turns to sludge, it will no longer draw heat from the engine, causing it to overheat, blow a gasket or totally seize up. There generally isn’t a fix for a seized engine.
So, all these problems – poor performance, bad fuel economy, voided warranties, and engine failure – are all much harder on your schedule and pocketbook than getting an oil change at Hilltop Tire Service. Schedule an appointment here and our skilled technicians will have you on your way again in no time!
As the old saying goes, an ounce of prevention – or in this case, an oil change – is worth a pound of cure. See you soon!
