Is it Time to Replace your Tires?

Is it Time to Replace your Tires?

People all over the world have been checking their personal health symptoms over the past few months, and early recognition of these signs helped many facing COVID-19. The same goes for tire health. While obviously not as important as your health, recognizing symptoms of poor tire health early can help you prevent possible harm to your car that can be caused from driving on poor tires. Here are a few signs to look for to ensure your tires are in good health.

1. Tire Pressure. Are your tires maintaining proper air pressure? Most newer vehicles come equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Sensor that will alert you if your tire pressure is low. If your vehicle doesn’t have TPMS Sensors, you should get a manual tires gauge and check the tire pressure periodically.

2. Check for tire wear. Visually look over your tires and check for cracks, tears, smooth spots on the tread or any metal showing. If you notice any of these, you need new tires ASAP!

3. Vehicle Shaking. When your vehicle is shaking, even on smooth roads, this can indicate your tires are out of balance. If you notice your steering wheel shaking, contact the experts at Hilltop Tire Service immediately to prevent severe damage to your tires.

4. Vehicle Pulling. If you notice your steering wheel pulling to one side of the ride, this suggests your vehicle may need a wheel alignment. If left too long, your tires will wear unevenly, causing them to wear out prematurely.

5. The Penny Test. If the tread is getting low on your tires, that is another sure sign that new tires are in the forecast soon. Take a penny and with Lincoln’s head facing down, stick it into the tire tread. If you can see Lincoln’s entire head, it’s time to replace your tires.

Now that you know the symptoms for poor tire health, when it’s time to replace your tires, the next step is picking out the tires. The tire experts at Hilltop Tire Service will help you decide what tires are best for you at the right price. Give us a call or request a tire quote online. We are here for you!
