Watch out for the heatwave surging through Iowa this summer!

Most people take for granted their heating and air conditioning system in their cars until that scorching hot day it stops pumping out cold air. Your heating and A/C systems need to be maintained to keep them in good working order.  It’s not a good idea to wait until that 100-degree day when it stops working to deal with it.  You should have regular inspections on the HVAC system. 

It’s not all about comfort either, there are several reasons why it’s COOL to keep your vehicle’s A/C maintained.

1. Your heating and A/C system is essential to keeping the engine cool.  Your engine produces intense heat while it is running.  Some of that heat goes out through the exhaust; however, most of that heat needs to be dispursed externally.  In the wintertime, some of the heat can be used to heat the cabin, and defrost the windows via the heater core. During the summer, all this heat has to be dispursed through the cooling system to keep the engine cool enough so that it doesn’t overheat and break down
2. Keeping up with regular A/C maintenance keeps your compressor working properly. Replacing the A/C compressor is a very costly repair you don’t want to have to deal with.  Regular A/C maintenance will help extend the life of your compressor by keeping the refrigerant and lubricants at the proper level.  You may also catch small problems like leaks or blockages before they become big expensive problems.
3. You’ll keep healthier when your A/C works!  In the summer, you will not only be kept comfortable and relaxed while driving, but it will provide a healthier ride too!  The cabin air filter keeps out contaminants like pollen, dust, exhaust fumes, and bacteria so they don’t enter into the air in your car.  Replacing your cabin air filter regularly can keep you in good health and cooler on those hot summer days.
