Road Trip Do’s and Don’t’s

Road Trip Do’s and Don’t’s

Road trips were popular back in the 50’s and 60’s when Route 66 connected the coasts and automobiles were able to meet the demands of interstate travel.  Then air travel became more popular and as a result, we lost our knack for road tripping. Since the COVID pandemic hit, car travel has once again become very popular.  Here are some Do’s and Don’ts to brush you up on your road-tripping skills.

  1. DO stop by Hilltop Tire before you hit the highway.  Most importantly, before you leave, get peace of mind with a free multi-point vehicle inspection.  Let our pros check over your tires, brakes, alignment, and fluids so you’re ready to take on the road, stress-free!
  2. DON’T assume there’s another gas station at the next exit. The E on the gas gauge doesn’t mean “Eh – I think we can probably make it.” The gas gauge is there for a reason, use it.  A full fuel tank improves vehicle performance as well as gets you there safely instead of walking with a gas can hoping to hitch a ride.
  3. DO carry cash, DON’T rely on credit cards! In some rural areas, you may come across a fuel pump that doesn’t take a credit card.  You should always carry some extra cash just in case.
  4. DON’T rely on internet signals, DO bring maps.  GPS, Google Maps, and Waze are great, but they only work if you have an internet signal.  In rural areas, that isn’t always certain. It’s recommended to bring some road maps or at least download them onto your phone before you leave so you have them if you need them.
  5. DO bring an emergency kit.  This should include but is not limited to, a flashlight, jumper cables, first aid kit, blanket, snacks, and water.  Remember you’ll need to drink plenty of water, but you’ll also want to bring some water for auto-related emergencies. So It’s a good idea to bring a gallon jug of water as well as water bottles.

These are just a few tips for the road this summer!  There are plenty more, but we’ll let you figure them out on your own.  The most important thing?  Have fun and stay safe!  We’ll see you soon!
